Step #1: Research and Prepare
Start by understanding the job role and the company. Delve into their mission, values, culture, and recent developments. This information will guide your answers and help you ask note-worthy questions.
Step #2: Practice, Practice, Practice
Familiarize yourself with common interview questions and prepare thoughtful responses. The more you practice, the more comfortable you'll become, reducing anxiety and improving your performance.
Step #3: Make Your First Impression Count
Dress professionally and arrive on time. Remember, first impressions are lasting ones. Ensure you give a firm handshake, maintain eye contact, and communicate effectively. Bring a copy of your resume to show that you consistently surpass standards. Even with virtual interviews, the same rules apply. Look directly at the camera, dress confidently, and have a resume copy to reference your experience.
STEP #4: SHOWCASE & NEGOTIATE YOUR VALUE
During the interview, make sure to highlight your achievements and skills. For instance, bring in data points to negotiate a better salary. In the negotiation phase, use these points as leverage to discuss your desired offer package. It's a great idea to have multiple interviews lined up at once. This way, you can compare the salary negotiations and assess offers. Always provide tangible evidence of your value.
Step #5: Follow Up
After your interview, send a thoughtful email to thank the interviewer, highlight key discussions, and reiterate your interest. This timely gesture can tip the scales in your favor. If you are a top candidate and you get rejected at the end, don't be afraid of expressing your disappointment but kindly suggest, 'Please contact me again when you are hiring again.' This will keep you top of mind, and they will almost immediately think of you first. Make them part of your network and follow up with them occasionally.
